A Provocative Message was Just Sent by Barack Obama to Donald Trump

Former President Barack Obama made headlines recently during a visit to Canada because of a provocative warning he issued to the world [read: Donald Trump].

NBC News reports that Obama was speaking at an event hosted by the Montreal Chamber of Commerce when he made his comments warning Trump about steering the United States into isolationism, especially in the light of lingering economic unpredictability. Obama used the historical examples of World Wars I and II to illustrate the result of extreme isolationism.

His warning was focused on the fact that vast numbers of people have a strong distrust and disdain of the government, and that this lack of trust stems from the ever-growing gap between the wealthy and the poor. Obama believes that most people see the government as a tool the wealthy use to benefit only themselves.

“That’s a recipe for more cynicism and more polarization, less trust in our institutions and less trust in each other. And it’s part of what leads people to turn to populist alternatives that may not actually deliver.”

He also chided Trump for pulling out of the Paris climate agreement, making sure his audience knew that this move was “temporary,” and that despite Trump’s ignorant move, many of the world’s largest and most influential companies and organization are already working toward implementing the vision of the Paris agreement.

“Obviously I’m disappointed with the current American administration’s decision to pull out of Paris, but all that work that we did is now embedded in decisions that are being made by companies all around America and all around the world. It’s not as if Wal-Mart is now going to suddenly reverse itself — they’re going to continue to build on the clean energy they’ve already invested in because it turns out it saves them money.”
