After Trump Was Handed a Defeated in Federal Court, His Appeal Will Be Heard by Former Obama SCOTUS Nominee, Merrick Garland

In a strange twist, former Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, who was denied admission to the high bench by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, will now hold a deciding vote on whether or not President Trump’s financial records are released directly to the House Oversight Committee.

Trump’s lawyers filed an appeal against a decision which ordered that his financial records be released.

The appeal was filed to the Washington, DC, Circuit Court of Appeals, and yes, Garland serves as chief judge.

Merrick Garland, who has maintained a fairly low profile since his nomination, was tapped by Barack Obama to replace Antonin Scalia following Scalia’s 2016 death.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to even schedule a meeting for the Senate Judiciary Committee could consider his appointment so Obama never even had the chance to get it to a vote.

Twitter users had a great time with this seemingly karmic revenge.

Democratic speechwriter Zev Karlin-Neumann pointed out the irony but lauded Garland’s professionalism.
