The investigation into the former national campaign chair for Donald Trump, Paul Manfort, has intensified as the FBI has executed a search warrant at one of Manafort’s homes, in Alexandria, VA.
According to CNN, this information comes directly from one of Manafort’s representatives.
Jason Maloni said in a statement to CNN, “FBI agents executed a search warrant at one of Mr. Manafort’s residences. Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well.”
The Washington Post broke news of the search, which apparently took place on July 26. Figures close to the special-counsel investigation have said that during the raid, the FBI took the opportunity to “seize documents and other materials.”
According to the Post:
Federal agents appeared at Paul Manafort’s home without advance warning in the predawn hours of July 26, the day after he met voluntarily with the staff for the Senate Intelligence Committee.
The search warrant was wide-ranging and FBI agents working with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III departed the home with various records. Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Manafort, confirmed that agents executed a warrant at one of the political consultant’s homes and that Manafort cooperated with the search.
This sends a clear warning to President Donald Trump and his entire team that Mueller has absolutely every intention of getting to the bottom of the Russian collusion, and even those closest to Trump will not be immune to the reaches of the investigation.
