Floundering Top Republican Lindsey Graham Publicly Pronounces, “I Don’t Care;” Refuses to Fulfill His Constitutional Duty; Faces Growing Election Uncertainty

Sen. Lindsey Graham appeared on “Face the Nation” and said he did not care if Trump gave the instructions to his then-counsel Don McGahn to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, stating that it doesn’t matter because the investigation is over.

Graham, who helped lead impeachment efforts against President Bill Clinton back when he was just Rep. Graham and not yet a Senator, seems to be coming off of the hardcore beliefs that led him to rally so hard against Clinton. He spoke to CBS News’ Margaret Brennan and said:

“It’s all theater — it doesn’t matter… I don’t care what he said to Don McGahn — it’s what he did. The president never obstructed.”

Brennan challenged Graham, asking, “It doesn’t matter to you that the president is changing a version of events and some would say lying.”

She confronted him with some of his previous statements and tried to get him to explain further how he could be so in favor of Clinton’s impeachment but so blind to the current situation.

He still defended Trump and slammed Clinton, saying: “What President Clinton did was interfere in a lawsuit against him by Paula Jones and others; hide the evidence; encourage people to lie. So to me he took the legal system and turned it upside down.”

The Mueller report states that McGahn reportedly said he refused when given the instructions to fire Mueller, even though they were given by President Trump.

Trump continues to deny that he told McGahn, or anyone else, to fire Mueller, saying in a tweet that if he had wanted to fire Mueller, he could have done it himself.

“If you’re going to look at every president who pops off at his staff, asks them to do something that is maybe crazy, then we won’t have any presidents.”

It seems with this interview that the South Carolina Senator has shown that he just does not care about the very principles and ideals he fought so hard over all those years ago now that they pertain to a member of his own party who is sitting in the White House.

The Washington Post’s James Downie makes a spectacular summation, “Graham is far from the first hypocritical politician.

But the South Carolina senator particularly prides himself on being no-nonsense and on his legal experience. That he has opted for such an obvious double standard is especially shameless.”
