Recently, a lot of discussion has been given to the odds that President Trump may be impeached. And those discussions have not gone unnoticed. The world of sports betting has paid attention and intently listened. So much so, that now the sports bookmakers have established the possibilities of Trump being impeached at different points in his term. This may be a first, at least in modern history.
Newsweek reported the following on Monday:
“Trump’s chances of impeachment in 2018 currently sit at 9/4, according to betting website ‘Paddy Power’, while the odds drop to 4/1 in 2019 and 16/1 in 2020.The odds Trump will be impeached during his first term also sit at “even,” compared to 8/11 odds he won’t be impeached.“
So what has spurred this concern over the possibility of Trump being impeached? Recently, media outlets have reported that Trump did intend to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller in June 2017. Mueller and his team are currently investigating to what extent Russia influenced the 2016 Presidential election. More importantly, Mueller is investigating the relationship between Trump and Russia.
The possibility that Trump had intended to fire Mueller is of great concern to many politicians on both sides of the aisle in Washington. Ardent Trump supporter, Lindsey Graham, has recently commented to ABC on the issue – and his support for Trump is dwindling:
“Graham, who said he would support legislation before Congress that would protect special counsels from firings with a review process, spoke Sunday about a report indicating Trump ordered Mueller’s dismissal in June but only changed his mind after White House General Counsel Don McGahn threatened to resign. ‘I’m sure that there will be an investigation around whether or not President Trump did try to fire Mr. Mueller. We know that he didn’t fire Mr. Mueller. We know that if he tried to, it would be the end of his presidency, it’s pretty clear to me that everybody in the White House knows it would be the end of President Trump’s presidency if he fired Mr. Mueller.’ Graham told ABC News on Sunday.”
I thin we all know that when it comes to Trump…all bets are off.
