In one bold statement, liberal author, film-maker, and commentator Michael Moore summed up his feelings about the actions of Donald Trump and Steve Bannon. And it provocative. And he is dead serious.
“If you’re still trying to convince yourself that a 21st century coup is not underway, please, please snap out of it,” he tweeted this week. Attached to the tweet was an article outlining the unprecedented and dangerous move Trump has made in swapping out Generals on his national security counsel with Steve Bannon – a political operative with absolutely zero qualifications.

Moore’s concerns were highlighted in the New York Times piece he cited:
But the defining moment for Mr. Bannon came Saturday night in the form of an executive order giving the rumpled right-wing agitator a full seat on the “principals committee” of the National Security Council — while downgrading the roles of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence, who will now attend only when the council is considering issues in their direct areas of responsibilities. It is a startling elevation of a political adviser, to a status alongside the secretaries of state and defense, and over the president’s top military and intelligence advisers.
Former White House officials in both parties were shocked by the move.
Perhaps Mr. Moore is correct. After all, Trump’s moves at least go against what all parties see as decades of standards and norms, and at most defy all common sense and logic. His brazen indifference to diplomatic norms, and his confusing warmth to America’s enemies seem to suggest a reorganization of political institutions to better match and serve his own interests rather than America’s.
This would make even more sense when coupled with the theory that has been suggested as of late, that the immigrant ban was nothing more than a distraction from the power supplant Trump and Bannon crafted and executed this week.
Regardless, Americans better be on guard. The media better be on guard. Our Congress better be on guard. Mothers and fathers better be on guard. America is under attack – and the source is from within.
