Wednesday morning was the beginning of open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act, also called Obamacare, the insurance act that covers millions of Americans. Of course, as we have previously reported, current President Donald Trump slashed advertising funding for the ACA by 90%, so the White House’s Health and Human Services office has not been able to advertise. And of course, the president himself has made no announcements about open enrollment on his infamous Twitter feed. Instead, a group of former Obama Administration officials got the word out in a major way.
The group, called Get America Covered produced a video to announce the open enrollment dates for the ACA. The star of the commercial? None other than former President Barack Obama. Early Wednesday morning, Obama announced the start of open enrollment on his own Twitter page and included the short video.

In the video, not only does Obama remind Americans of the enrollment deadlines and the success of the ACA, he also takes the opportunity to defend the plan. No longer can insurance companies charge higher rates for women or deny subscribers due to a pre-existing condition. Both of those provisions have been threatened by Republicans, who have tried many times over to dismantle Obama’s signature legislation.
A private group, founded by officials who previously helped run the ACA, have gotten the word out about helping this country’s citizens enroll for health insurance. Helping them is our country’s former president, Barack Obama. Meanwhile, our current president, Donald Trump, and his administration, are doing nothing to help our citizens get access to healthcare. Technically — considering all the times they’ve tried to repeal the ACA and replace it with garbage — they’re doing less than nothing.
