In a bombshell report that has already shaken millions of Americans to their core, ProPublica reports that just last week FBI officials have confirmed that Director James Comey lied to Congress about the number of Hillary Clinton emails her former aide Huma Abedin forwarded to Anthony Weiner’s computer.
When Comey came to Congress with the headline-generating news that, “Huma Abedin — Weiner’s wife and a top Clinton deputy — had made “a regular practice” of forwarding “hundreds and thousands” of Clinton messages to her husband, “some of which contain classified information,” he was grossly overstating the truth.
Now we know that much of what Comey posited as truth was actually untrue.
“FBI officials have privately acknowledged that Comey misstated what Abedin did and what the FBI investigators found. On Monday, the FBI was said to be preparing to correct the record by sending a letter to Congress later this week. But that plan now appears on hold, with the bureau undecided about what to do.
ProPublica is reporting a story on the FBI’s handling of the Clinton emails and raised questions with government officials last week about possible inaccuracies in Comey’s statements about Abedin.
It could not be learned how the mistake occurred. The FBI and Abedin declined ProPublica’s requests for comment on the director’s misstatements.”
According to ProPublica, “two sources familiar with the matter” have confirmed that instead of the “hundreds of thousands” of emails was in actuality only “a handful,” and that it was not a regular practice for Huma Abedin to forward these emails to other computers. It has been suggested, in fact, that all the emails in question could simply be the result of backing up her Blackberry to a computer.
