According to a new report from CNN on Wednesday, a congressional candidate backed by former President Donald Trump once argued against the right to vote for women, arguing that the country had “suffered” since women were granted that right by the 19th Amendment.

The report says:

“John Gibbs, who defeated in the primary an incumbent Republican who had voted to impeach Trump, also made comments in the early 2000s praising an organization trying to repeal the 19th Amendment which also argued that women’s suffrage had made the United States into a ‘totalitarian state.'”

The report continues by saying that while a student at Stanford in the early 2000s, Gibbs founded the “Society for the Critique of Feminism” while pushing the view that women did not “posess (sic) the characteristics necessary to govern.”  Gibbs has been a proponent of a patriarchal society, according to the report, but has since tried to cover-up the evidence of his abhorrent, sexist views.

The story continues:

“Gibbs requested the website for the think tank be removed from the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine in 2016, according to a spokesman for the Internet Archive. But CNN’s KFile reviewed it on a different archiving service. CNN’s KFile previously reported that Gibbs’ history of conspiratorial and inflammatory tweets included baselessly accusing Democrats of taking part in satanic rituals and defending a notorious anti-Semitic troll banned by Twitter.”

Former President Trump described Gibbs as a “fabulous talent” when endorsing his run for congress last November.

Gibbs worked in the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Trump administration and won the Republican primary in Michigan against incumbent Rep. Peter Meijer, who is one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over his role in the Capitol attack of 1/6/21. Gibbs will now face Democrat Hillary Scholten in the upcoming midterms.

The think tank he created at Stanford was hosted on his personal page and featured his arguments that the U.S. would be better off if women couldn’t vote or govern because they are not as capable as men at thinking logically “without relying upon emotional reasoning.” He also contended it’s not a father’s “primary task” but ” it is the mother’s.”

More from Gibb’s think tank website:

“Some argue that in a democratic society, it is hypocritical or unjust for women, who are 50% of the population, not to have the vote. This is obviously not true, since the founding fathers, who understood liberty and democracy better than anyone, did not believe so. In addition, all people under age 18 cannot vote, although they too comprise a significant portion of the population. So we cannot say that women should be able to vote simply because they are a large part of the population.”
