You may think that Mike Pence is a hero for not giving in to Trump’s wishes to steal the election. But no matter how you might feel about January 6, folks, this man simply must NOT be allowed to become president. We’ll tell you why.
I’ve heard a lot of people talk about the desire for Trump to be impeached early on in his presidency, but it’s becoming clearer by the day that Mike Pence as President would likely be far worse for America, especially in regard to the rights of LGBTQ community.
As Rachel Maddow reminded viewers recently, you just have to look at Pence’s record on gay rights as Governor of Indiana to see the evil anti-gay campaign he is likely to launch on the US.
In 2013, Pence signed into Indiana law a bill that makes it a felony to lie on a marriage license. Seems relatively harmless, no? It is tricky when you note that there is a place for ONE male applicant and ONE female applicant to check boxes, meaning for a gay couple, one of them would have to lie.
That’s pretty sneaky, Indiana. Especially given the fact that lying on a marriage application is a level 6 felony punishable by up to 18 month and prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Then there are Mike Pence’s other anti-gay policies, Maddow adds: Like taking away funds for HIV and AIDS programs and giving it to anti-gay “conversion therapy” programs instead.
‘Mike Pence said you should not only take away money from HIV and AIDS programs, he said AIDS funding should be taken away from serving people with HIV and AIDS because instead it should be diverted into government-funded programs designed to cure people from being gay, to try to fix gay people. That’s what the government should spend its money on — not this AIDS stuff.’
“Conversion therapy” programs seek to change a person’s orientation and usually just short of torture and abuse. The Human Rights Campaign reports:
‘So-called “conversion therapy,” sometimes known as “reparative therapy,” is a range of dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Such practices have been rejected by every mainstream medical and mental health organization for decades, but due to continuing discrimination and societal bias against LGBTQ people, some practitioners continue to conduct conversion therapy. Minors are especially vulnerable, and conversion therapy can lead to depression, anxiety, drug use, homelessness, and suicide.’
This man cannot become President. Cannot happen.
