According to new reports, two days before Donald Trump’s supporters violently attacked the U.S. Capitol to disrupt congress certifying election results, the U.S. Secret Service discovered a “series of violent threats” made on numerous social media platforms.  Some of the threats were specifically made against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D. CA) as well against current President Joe Biden, but were not passed on to Capitol Police until after the violent insurrection was over on the evening of January 6..

Secret Service email messages from January were obtained by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a liberal watchdog group, who reported:

“On January 4, Secret Service agents discovered a Parler account, which we’ve chosen not to name, posting a series of violent threats towards lawmakers. Other profiles with the same name appeared on Twitter, MeWe, Bitchute, Youtube and Facebook.”

And continued:

“January 6 starts #1776 all over again…Fight for EVERYTHING” the account posted on Dec. 31, 2020, and listed “Enemies,” including Pelosi. The list, which was posted by a Parler user, also included Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

A Tweet from the same day as the threat against Pelosi also stated:

“TIPS FOR THE BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS PATRIOTS GOING TO DC TO FORCE CONGRESS TO REFUSE BIDEN’S RIGGED ELECTION.”

The “tips,” according to CREW, included statements like “Keep MAGA gear hidden until AFTER checking in” at hotels, “DC is very BLUE and a hotbed for ANTIFA/BLM. Stay with the large group, especially at night,” and “be wary” of DC police officers.

The account also wrote fairly straightforward threats like one on January 2 that said “Biden will die shortly after being elected…Patriots are gonna tear his head off. Prison is his best case scenario.”

Another post said “We’re all on a mission to save America. Lone wolf attacks are the way to go…Stay anonymous. Stay alive. Guns up Patriots!!”

These treats weren’t passed on to the Capitol Police until 5:55 pm on January 6, 2021, which was several hours after the Capitol attack had settled down, meaning that Pelosi was at the Capitol that day without any prior knowledge of the threats against her.

In the wake of the The Secret Service coming under fire in recent months over deleted text messages related to the events of January 6, law professor and former US Attorney Joy Vance called for a full investigation in the Secret Service’s failure to share threatening messages with Capitol and D.C. police and other law enforcement agencies:

“This is deeply disturbing and requires a full investigation. The Capitol Police are responsible for protecting the Speaker.”

The Secret Service is under the Department of Homeland Security, and DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari is under investigation by two House Committee chairs, who have accused him of “obstruction.”
