After the latest Trump fiasco, where he boldly called for “Second-Amendment People” to bring violence against Hillary Clinton and/or Supreme Court Justices, Jennifer Baker, an NRA strategist, told the New York Times the following:
Donald Trump is absolutely correct. If Hillary Clinton is elected, there is nothing we can do to stop her from nominating an anti-gun Supreme Court justice who will vote to overturn the individual right of law-abiding citizens to own a gun in their home for protection.
The big problem with that statement? It is a LIE. It is an IMPOSSIBILITY, and Baker knows it, the NRA knows it, the Republican party knows it, and anyone who has a basic grasp of the United States government and the Constitution should know it.
So how can we boldly call out Baker for this lie? How can we call out years of lying on the part of the NRA? It really has nothing to do with the Second Amendment itself; rather, it has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that the right to bear arms IS a Constitutional Amendment. To impose that people would NOT have the right to bear arms to defend themselves would, in fact, take another Constitutional Amendment. The path? There are two ways:
- An Constitutional Convention may be called by vote, either of the super majority of both houses of Congress, or the majority of 2/3 of individual state legislatures.
- An amendment will be proposed by Congress, followed by vote of the state legislatures. 3/4 of the states must pass the amendment (the states individually decide how that process takes place).
Under those Constitutional guidelines, it is inconceivable that the Second Amendment might be overturned, at least any time in the perceivable future.
Here are other truths.
FIRST, here is Hillary Clinton’s official platform on Gun Control and the Second Amendment.
“I’m not here to repeal the Second Amendment. I’m not here to take away your guns … like every other constitutional right, is subject to reasonable regulation.” While she has no desire to overturn the Second Amendment, she does strongly advocate for reasonable gun regulation. This excerpt is taken from her campaign website, HillaryClinton.com.
I believe weapons of war have no place on our streets. We may have our disagreements on gun safety regulations, but we should all be able to agree on a few things. If the FBI is watching you for suspected terrorist links, you shouldn’t be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked. You shouldn’t be able to exploit loopholes and evade criminal background checks by buying online or at a gun show. And yes, if you’re too dangerous to get on a plane, you are too dangerous to buy a gun in America.

SECOND, the last time a major gun restriction put into place in the United States, it was led by then REPUBLICAN President George H. W. Bush. It was called the Brady Bill (Brady was shot at the same time President Reagan was shot in an assassination attempt).
It’s time the NRA and their Republican puppets were finally forced to tell the TRUTH!
