According to his niece Mary Trump, former President Donald Trump would “burn everything down” if the GOP were to turn their backs on him after candidates he supported failed to win their elections in the recent 2022 midterm elections.
Mary Trump, notoriously a very vocal critic of her uncle, said that she believes he is “the most dangerous person to the Republican party.”
Speaking to MSNBC, she continued:
“Donald becomes his most dangerous when he fears loss of relevance, when he fears that he is no longer the center of attention. When he fears that he is no longer the one in control.”
“We don’t know just what kind of information he has on other people in his party. What we do know is he would be willing to use it … Donald will burn everything down if he feels like he is going down.”
Many GOP members believe that Trump is to blame for the poor performance of congressional and gubernatorial candidates across the nation who had endorsements from Trump.
Democrats retained control of the Senate, and while the GOP is likely to win the House when the results are all tallied, it will be by a significantly smaller margin than they had hoped for.
Mary Trump continued by noting that she believes that her uncle could beat Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the primaries for the party’s 2024 nomination, should that scenario become reality:
“Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s as dangerous, but I don’t think he plays nationally. He doesn’t have any charisma, which unfortunately Donald does have.”
Mary Trump concluded:
“And Donald made it clear last week that he’s perfectly comfortable digging up dirt. Well, he might already have dirt.”
