David Cay Johnston, a biographer of former President Donald Trump, recently suggested that whether Trump is the Republican party’s nominee for another run at the White House in 2024 or not, that Trump will make sure he takes the GOP down in the process.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Ali Velshi, Johnston stated that should the former president pursue another bid for the presidency, as he has more the strongly hinted,, it will take the GOP down one of three possible paths — none of which will be good for their chances of winning back the White House.

Johnston noted that Trump as the GOP nominee would be a large win for Democrats, as they believe Trump is incredibly beatable this time around, and further noted it might be even worse for Republicans if he were to be denied the nomination:

“I think going forward there are three likely outcomes.”

“One is Donald gets the Republican nomination because he is able to turn out his minority of people who win the primaries; the Democrats should be very happy if that happens. Secondly, he does not get the nomination and runs as an independent, which would allow the Democrats to run virtually anybody and win the White House.

Johnston concluded:

“But the third possibility is that Donald seeing that he would be overwhelmingly trounced and labeled a loser — a word he hates with a passion — will tell his supporters to boycott voting.”
