Former Vice President Dick Cheney, in a new campaign ad for his daughter Rep. Liz Cheney (R. WY), has slammed former President Donald Trump, calling him among other things, a “coward” and a “threat to our republic.”

Cheney says in the ad:

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters.”

Liz Cheney is slightly behind in the Wyoming polls, trailing attorney Harriet Hageman in the Republican primary. Cheney is running for a fourth term in office and drew the ire of Trump and his staunchest supporters by becoming the vice chairwoman of the House Select Committee investigating Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 violence at the U.S. Capitol Building.

After hearing testimony from former members of the Trump administration and other Republican officials, the committee has made a strong case that Trump knowingly pushed lies about his election loss.

Former VP Cheney agreed with that assessment in the ad Liz’s reelection:

“He lost his election and he lost big. I know it, he knows it, and deep down I think most Republicans know it.  Lynne [Liz Cheney’s mother] and I are so proud of Liz for standing up for the truth, doing what’s right, honoring her oath to the Constitution, when so many in our party are too scared to do so.”

Cheney concluded with:

“There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office, and she will succeed.”

Rep. Cheney was one of 10 members of the House GOP who voted to impeach Trump for “incitement of insurrection” after January 6, 2021. The Wyoming GOP censured her for her impeachment vote, and she was stripped of her leadership role in the party by her House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and fellow Republicans in the House.
