Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R. Ill), an often harsh critic of former Republican President Donald Trump and one of only 10 Republicans in the House to vote to impeach Trump, recently made headlines again by calling Trump “the worst president the United States of America ever had.”

Appearing Monday on CNN’s “New Day,” with John Berman, Kinzinger mentioned the birth of his son, saying he wanted him to know the “full accounting of what happened on January 6” when he’s older and learns history, noting “that’s going to be something I think in 5 or 10 years is going to be hard to explain, if you’re not on the side of truth.”

When asked by Berman what he would tell his son about the controversial former President, Kinzinger went all in on his grievances with Trump:

“I’m going to tell him he was the worst president the United States of America ever had. He was a liar. He was a charlatan.”

He added that Trump was “a man with a more fragile ego than anybody I’ve ever met,” and that he “walks around like the tough guy, but he’s the one that gets more offended and wounded and sad than anybody I know.”

He also claimed Trump is a threat to democracy:

“I’m also going to tell him that it was the moment that I hope America hit the bottom of its slide towards authoritarianism, and the moment we woke up. I think we’re going to look back and say, wow, that was a moment we might have flown too close to the sun, and we can never do that again.”

Kinzinger also went after Sen. Josh Hawley (R. MO), a leading congressional defender of Trump and the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, calling him “one of the worst human beings” and a “con artist.”

Kinzinger and fellow GOP Rep Liz Cheney of Wyoming were recently censured by the Republican National Committee for their participation in the Jan. 6 committee, which the RNC called a “Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.”
